Solar Components
High Performance Tempering Valve Installed from $350most Solar hot water can be an excessive temperature in the tank - so tempering valves must be used to prevent scalding from hot water outlets. These are three way valves that mix the cold and hot water from the tap to a predefined (normally 50 deg) temperature which is taken through the third outlet to the hot feed into the house. These valves are fitted with filters and can get blocked - these valves last a decent amount of time but may need to be changed through the life of a solar. We do install new tempering valves with most solar installs, always where there is no valve or there is an older unreliable valve. They can be adjusted slightly by removing the orange cap and turning with the inset on the cap.

P&T - Hot Relief Valve changed over from $300Hot water exits this valve when the tank either overheats or has too much pressure in it. This PTR (pressure temperature relief) valve needs to be changed periodically - normally at 5 years but can be less if the solar isn't used much and overheats regularly.

Solar Doctor specialize in solar hot water issues - that means we are the best people to call out to check and report on your solar. We carry most parts on board and can repair on the spot.
Regular scheduled maintenance should be carried out at least every 5 years. For Stainless systems this means replacing the P&T valve - an additional extra when servicing VE tanks is a replacement sacrificial anode.
